When I was in my twenties, I didn't vote. In my early thirties, that changed. Now, I vote like my family's life depends on it, because it does. Here are the four reasons why I must vote:
I vote because I want my husband to witness his kids grow up in this country. I vote because I want my son to step into his fullness as a proud African American man with the courage and the tenacity to do his part to make this country a better place. I vote because I want my daughter to develop a love for herself so deep that people can feel it before she steps into the room. I want her to have a voice that can be heard across this country. And, I vote for myself because I know what this country is capable of if it dares to find the purpose it was meant to have. This is why I vote. Why do you vote?
